UCLA’s Underwear Affair for a good cause

On Saturday Aug 2nd, around 1000 people took park in the first annual Underwear Affair for City of Hope to raise money and awareness for those below-the-waist cancers (prostate, colorectal, cervical, ovarian, kidney, bladder, testicular and uterine) that do not always get the attention they should. Adrian Grenier of HBO’s Entourage sporting his “green” message on his t-shirt. It was a first for Los Angeles and the 10K run/5K walk was a success, so they’re bringing it back next year (It’s good to see an undie run with a cause and we think UCLA’s Undie Run should up the ante on that end).

Caring for your fine lingerie

Lingerie is one of the most popular gifts you can give a woman. It needs some special care, but if you treat it well it will look great for a long time.

Laundry Care for Your Sexy Lingerie

Taking proper care of your sexy lingerie is very important. Your goal should be to make it last as long as possible. What this means is that your lingerie needs to be treated differently than you would treat your regular garments. You should always make it a point to read the label on your lingerie in order to get the proper washing instructions.

The best method is to hand-wash all your lingerie in cold water. Hot washing could shrink your lingerie (especially satin lingerie) by 10% to 20% in size. When you are washing your bras, panties, nightgowns and any other lingerie, be sure to use using a mild detergent like Woolite. You should let them soak for about 3 minutes. Most regular detergents contain extremely harsh chemicals that can damage your fine lingerie.

If you insist on washing your bras in the washing machine, you should first place them in a Lingerie Wash Bag. This mesh bag will help keep the bras from being wrapped around the agitator. This protects your bra from being stretched out and if your bra is under wired, it protects the under wire from being twisted and puncturing the bra material. Also try to avoid placing your bras, panties and other lingerie in the dryer. The heat of the dryer breaks down the Lycra, spandex and elastic.

Lingerie Laundry Tips

When machine washing is recommended, wash on the delicate cycle with other delicate fabrics. Do not wring lingerie. Wringing, even hand wringing, can cause wrinkles and creases which may be difficult to get out. It is better to gently squeeze out the excess water or press the garment between two clean, dry towels to remove the excess water and then allow the garment to drip dry.

Line drying or drip dry is always the best choice since a hot dryer shortens the life of the fabric. However, if you use the dryer, set the controls on delicate or even air dry. If a label suggests hand washing, use a cleansing product designed for delicate fabrics.

For machine washable bras, fasten hooks and eyes to avoid tangling, then place bras in a lingerie bag before washing on the delicate cycle in cool water with gentle detergent. Air-dry only. Silk should be hand washed in cold water and dried flat. Wash colors separately. Do not bleach lingerie.

Remember, if in doubt, read the label. If it says “Dry Clean Only”, there is a reason. Everything else can almost always be hand washed. Our advice is to rotate your bras. Bras do not need to be washed after every wear. But if that is the case, you should avoid wearing them two days in a row. The bra will require a day of rest after wearing, to return to its original fit and to breathe. Wearing one bra constantly puts a lot of stress on the fabric and causes it to rapidly stretch out of shape and to lose its fit.

Replace your bras every six months. Most bras get worn out and do not fit as well or give proper support as they should after this time. Finally, if your lingerie doesn’t come with tags, here’s a quick reference on common materials and their specific care instructions:

  • Acetate: Dry cleaning is best recommended.
  • Acrylic: Can either be hand washed or dry-cleaned.
  • Cotton: You can either hand wash it, machine-wash and then put it in the dryer, or dry-clean it.
  • Nylon: Can be machine-washed but be sure to set the dryer at low temperature.
  • Rayon: Varies between dry cleaning and hand washing it.
  • Silk: Requires gentle care. Although most labels would strongly suggest to have it dry-cleaned, it’s no longer an absolute necessary. You can hand wash it using gentle soap and let it dry naturally.

Thousand of pictures of women in their Wonderbra make up new ad

Click on picture to see Full Sized Image

In order to put Wonderbra back in the minds of millions of women, this year has seen two advertising campaigns to rival their “Hello Boys” poster ad from 1994. Earlier this year, Wonderbra Britain launched a catchy video in which they call the female breasts watermelons, jugs, puppies, coconuts, cupcakes, knockers, pillows, horns, eggs and other boob related names.

The ad was actually the lead-in campaign and casting call for models for the new mosaic poster unveiled this week with approximately three thousand women in bras. Wonderbra was looking for down to earth ladies and the idea behind the campaign was specifically that companies needed to be closer to their customers by involving them directly.

A few celebrities, Jessica Hinds, Debra Stephensen and Carol McGiffin are also seen in the poster that has been created in order to help launch and bring awareness to Wonderbra’s larger size cups in D to G (DDDD in US measure).

In addition to the actual photo shoot, that proved to be the biggest underwear photo session in Britain, women were encouraged to send in their photos if they were not able to attend. And Wonderbra is very frank about this recent endeavour boldly stating “we were looking for as many girls as we could to create the biggest collection of boobs ever seen”.

For those living in Central London, you will be lucky enough to see the real billboard. For those of us in other areas, we can view the online version of “The BIG REVEAL”. What a fun and inspiring project! More companies need to connect with their customers and take negative comments and turn them into positive, entertaining selling points.

Many Styles for Many Moods

If lingerie was only meant for one mood, why in the world would there be so many possible choices? There are so many options because there are so many feelings. But don’t forget that sex is not just about sexuality, but also sensuality. It is often said that the most important sexual organ for humans is the brain. The brain is where imagination lives, where passion lives, where pain and pleasure lives. And the brain relies on the senses for input, since it is safely tucked away behind that bony structure we call a skull. So do yourself, and your partner, a favor by choosing your attire to stimulate those senses to the maximum. Vision is an important sense. We receive a lot of our information about the world through our eyes. So what you see has a big impact on how you feel. Visually, you can look sexy, or you could look slutty, or you could look demure, or any number of different ways.

Put some thought in to your look, and you will communicate your desires without saying a word. Follow the links in this article to see examples of each of the types of items described

  • Do you want to be seduced? Channel your inner romance novel heroine by wearing a romantic flowing gown.
  • Do you want to be caressed? Try showing off your shoulders, arms and legs with a pretty teddy, while keeping the rest of you covered. This invites your partner to stroke the exposed areas.
  • Do you want to be attacked? Inspire some debauchery by pulling out your strappy or very revealing outfits.

Vision is not the only sense that can inspire passion. Touch is important, so the materials you choose can have a big impact on your moods. Soft, silky outfits are great for snuggling and cuddling. Lace feels a little rougher, so it inspires more intensity and often comes off a little faster during love-making. Vinyl or leather is usually kept on throughout the session, and has a tactile component that is all its own.

Many experts say that the sense of smell is more primally linked in to your psyche than any of the others. Just think about the last time you were minding your own business and suddenly some scent brought on a very intense memory. Maybe it was the perfume your mother wore, the aftershave your father used, the shampoo your first lover preferred. Or maybe it was just the musky scent of some previous passionate encounter. All these things not only bring back the smells, but you swear that you are back in that time and that place all over again. So take a little time to think about what deep feelings you want to evoke, and coordinate the smells to support the moment.

Hearing and taste are senses that I will leave to your own imagination.

What’s your Bra Preference?

Better-than-Bare Lingerie carries a wide variety of bras to suit every woman’s lifestyle and body type. There are numerous different types of brassieres and the most basic difference is in the support construction: underwire vs. soft cup. Once you decide your preference for underwire or soft cup bra, there are many other options to consider, including the following types - find the best bra style for you!

Convertible Bra: offers many different wear styles all in one. Most often, this is accomplished through removable, adjustable straps that can be worn in the normal u-back fashion, criss-cross at the back, as a halter neck or even strapless. The advantage to a convertible brassiere is that it offers versatility so you can wear it either with your favorite t-shirt or with a low-back top.

Front Closure Bra: Simply put, front closure brassieres are just much easier to get on! They also lay completely flat at the back under clothing. Some feature a racerback style back, which is great for wear with tank tops and for lending a no-slip effect to the straps.

Minimizer Bra: has the ability to reduce the cup size by up to 2 inches for a more flattering silhouette under clothes. Minimizer bras work miracles for women looking to fit into their favorite tight tops.

Seamless Bra: are not actually seamless, but they are where it counts – in the cups. They offer total comfort and a sleek look.

Sports Bra: Most sports bras are made from stretch microfiber that wicks moisture away from your skin and dries quickly to keep you comfortable throughout your workout. The choice of front or rear close, underwire or soft cup, racerback or traditional is entirely up to you and your sport of choice.

Underwire Bra: Underwire bra are typically thought to be the most supportive types of bras, especially for larger cups sizes, because the wire adds a lifting effect under the breast tissue.

Wireless Bra: Also called soft cup bras, these are made without the underwire. Some women simply don’t want to wear a wire, so many wireless bras have popped up in the market with unique, alternative support mechanisms. Check out our great selection and all Bras are on Sale every day!

Lingerie Choices for Your Body Type

Whether you are trying to find just the right gift for a loved one, or looking for advice on what styles will look best on you, having a basic and realistic view of body shape will go a long way towards maximizing your investment. A little thought about what your attributes or weaknesses are also you to look as alluring as you feel. Don’t get us wrong; you don’t have to be stick-thin and perfectly proportioned to be sexy. Lingerie is the great equalizer. In some ways, buying lingerie is almost self-defeating. If you pick the right style, color and size, no one will even notice the cloth draping your body. So read along, and see suggestions we have to help you make the best purchases. Click on the pictures to see examples of the outfits we suggest for each example

For the Woman with: a Bigger Bottom

If the backside is a little large, the best bet is a thong bottom with some width to the back. Having around 1/3 coverage will make things look a little smaller, still show ample cheek and elongate the leg line. Things to avoid: Very skinny g-strings (they accentuate the size) or full coverage “granny panties” (makes the bottom look even wider).

For the Woman with: a Pear Shape

The secret here is to call attention to the bust, and have a solid opaque bottom that just slips over the hips. This will draw attention up, and the flaring A-line shape will slim the butt and hips. Things to avoid: Drawing attention to the middle. Don’t wear something with a pattern along the midriff, and avoid panties that cut straight across the thighs. These will cut visually cut the wearer off, and make the legs look shorter and heavier.

For the Woman with: Large Breasts Wearing a full coverage top will provide support and visually balance the look. What you want is to make the bust look controlled and proportional. Also, this type of top won’t leave visible lines in anything you wear over your sexy outfit. A bikini brief will help you look youthful, and not like ‘matronly’. Things to avoid: Demi-cups, shelf bras or other styles that accentuate the bust spilling out of the top.

For the Woman with: a Large Tummy

If you have a belly ‘pooch’, try wearing a babydoll with a closed front and some type of pattern. Add a thong or sexy pair of panties that will visually extend your legs.Things to avoid: Don’t wear an open-front babydoll that frames what you are trying to not call attention to. And don’t be tempted to buy either the top or bottom too small, as edges digging in really make like you are wearing things that are just too tight.

For the Woman with: a Slim Build Slimmer women want to compliment their frame with something light and airy. Feminine lingerie matches the delicacy of the frame, especially in sheer fabrics. things to avoid; Slim women can wear almost anything, but want to avoid anything that is either too visually heavy or that is too large. Otherwise you look like you are wearing something meant for someone else.

For the Woman with: an Hourglass Figure

Curvy women want to wear something that accentuates the waist, like a bustier. Adding some soft boning and a pretty matching bottom will really make your silhouette rock. Things to avoid; items that are loose fitting can make an hourglass shape look large and shapeless. Stick to fitted items. And point attention to the waist, not above or below.
